Sascha Sebastian Hohn, known as Block Barley, is a producer and artist based in Hamburg, recognized for his innovative contributions to the music scene. He kicked off his career with a debut 7″ release in 2003, followed by the notable full-length album “Dead At The Control” on HongKong Recordings, and a collaborative single “Michigan Nights” featuring Guilty Simpson, known for his work with the late producer J Dilla.

In addition to his solo work, Block Barley is a prominent member of the artist collective Tapemosphere, known for their captivating sound installations using tape loops. These installations, reminiscent of musique concrète, have made a lasting impression, with one displayed in a German sculpture museum. The concept of “Tapemosphere” reflects his exploration of the material qualities of audiotape, transforming it into various audiovisual and spatial forms.

Known for his passion as an avid record collector and crate-digger, Block Barley regularly graces the turntables with DJ sets. His performances are known for their eclectic nature, seamlessly crossing multiple genres. You can listen to his mixes on DubLab, a radio platform known for curating great music.

Residing in the artist house “Wendenstrasse 45,” Block Barley not only calls it home but also curates exhibitions and events in the gallery “Studio 45” to shine a light on up-and-coming talents in the art world.

Block Barley’s artistic endeavors also extend to film scoring, where he contributes his musical talents to underground movies and video art projects. Furthermore, he is the founder of the archival fashion store “bluesleeve,” specializing in vintage Japanese designers such as Yohji Yamamoto, Issey Miyake, and Comme des Garçons. “bluesleeve” highlights Block Barley’s diverse tastes and dedication to preserving and showcasing the timeless artistry of Japanese fashion.

With the release of his LP “Ether Ghost” via The Content Label, Block Barley continues to explore new artistic horizons, leaving a mark on the music, fashion, and art scenes.
